The rocking of the boat and the salt air is meant to improve the taste of the Aquavit spirit.  The Hardware Distillery pays homage to that spirit by sending a barrel of its aquavit across the Hood Canal, (our Fjord), with a festive Hoodsport celebration. In the same spirit Hood Canal Events hosts an annual Paddle the Canal challenge, where paddlers of all ages are welcome to join the 3-mile race across the canal and back to the Hoodsport Marina.
